Looking to study CIMA in 2024? Unsure about where to go or what to do first? We've put together five easy steps to get you started on your CIMA journey in no time!

STEP 1 - Is CIMA Right For Me?

This is the first and most important step. Is this where you want to invest your time and money? CIMA’s professional qualification can be a challenging journey, but the rewards far outweigh the sacrifice if you are willing to make the commitment.

STEP 2 - Which Route To Take?

Do you want to do the Professional Qualification (PQ) or Finance Leadership Programme (FLP)? Both cover the exact same syllabus and reward you with the same qualification and CGMA status but the course structure differs. To read more about what CIMA FLP entails, click here.

This is where the journey differs slightly depending on which route you choose. We’ll cover the traditional Professional Qualification (PQ) Route first.

STEP 3 -Check Exemptions (PQ)

Your previous qualifications and work experience could grant you advanced entry into the CIMA qualification. You will need to apply for exemptions on the CIMA website. We are happy to assist you in doing so. For more information about CIMA exemptions and their Pros & Cons, click here

STEP 4 - Register with CIMA Global (PQ)

You will need to register as a student on the CIMA Global website to receive your CIMA account number. This needs to be done before you can apply to study with a tuition provider.

STEP 5 - Choose a Tuition Provider (PQ)

Finally, all that is left is to partner with a tuition provider to walk alongside you on your journey to success. At IBTC, we can assist you in planning your studies and making recommendations on where to start. It is up to you to choose which study method works for you.

We recommend you take virtual classes led by one of our expert lecturers.  We have two semesters, semester one starts in February and semester two starts in July of each year.  You can, of course, study at your own pace with our structured Online Courses or Home Study options. Click here to view more about our CIMA Classes.

OR if you prefer to enrol in the CIMA Finance Leadership Programme (FLP),

STEP 3 - Check Entry Requirements (FLP)

You don't need any prior qualifications to start the FLP programme from the Certificate Level. As with the PQ Route, any previous qualifications could earn you advance entry into the programme.

STEP 4 - Purchase FLP Subscription from IBTC (FLP)

Under law, CIMA and other Professional Bodies are not able to sell subscriptions directly to students in South Africa. This means that you will need to purchase your FLP subscription through a tuition provider such as IBTC.  This subscription includes all of your registration fees, exam fees, study material, learning media and a host of other benefits. To view more about FLP and how it works, click here

STEP 5 - Register on CIMA's FLP Platform (FLP)

After purchasing your FLP subscription from IBTC, you will receive an activation email from CIMA within a few weeks. From there, you will have access to all of your study material and other content on the FLP platform.

We're here for you - if you have any questions, or want to talk to someone and find out if CIMA is right for you, mail us on [email protected] or call us at 0861 111 411.
