The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has officially unveiled a major revamp of its world-renowned ACCA Qualification, reflecting the rapidly evolving role of accountants in business.

This ‘next-generation qualification’ is designed to equip future finance professionals with the skills to lead in a world where technology, sustainability, and business ethics are more critical than ever.

A New Era for Accountancy

These changes represent a fundamental shift in how the profession prepares for the future. The redesigned qualification, set to launch in mid-2027, aims to produce finance leaders who can:

  • Drive sustainable, socially responsible business
  • Embrace and leverage new technologies, including AI
  • Adapt to economic uncertainty with resilience and agility
  • Combine technical expertise with ethical leadership

ACCA’s chief executive, Helen Brand, emphasised how the profession is being reshaped:

"Accountants are no longer just stewards of financial information. They’re innovators, sustainability champions, and enablers of new technologies. Our updated qualification reflects this broader, more impactful role - one that focuses on people, planet, and prosperity."

Designed with Employers and the Next Generation in Mind

The new ACCA Qualification is the result of extensive global consultation, incorporating insights from employers, learning partners, current members, and even younger Gen Z students.

Key updates include:

  • Integrated learning journeys powered by AI, providing students with tailored support and real-time feedback
  • Employability Modules at every stage of the qualification, offering simulated work experiences in areas like digital technology, ethics, sustainability, and business management
  • Enhanced awards and recognition, allowing students to demonstrate their skills to employers throughout their ACCA journey
  • A new Data Science Professional exam option at the Strategic Professional level, ideal for those looking to specialise in one of the fastest-growing areas of finance

Reza Ali, ACCA’s Director of Innovation in Learning and Assessment, described the updates as a way to keep the ACCA Qualification firmly at the forefront of global business:

"The ACCA Qualification has always set the global standard. It’s evolving to reflect the world our students will work in. Technology, sustainability, ethics, and employability are no longer optional - they are essential. This is about preparing accountants for the opportunities and challenges ahead."

A Smooth Transition for Current Students

Students currently studying or about to begin their ACCA Qualification won’t be left behind. ACCA has confirmed that all progress and achievements will carry over, with no disadvantage to students in terms of progression or cost.

A More Inclusive Pathway

The redesign also reinforces ACCA’s commitment to accessibility. The updated Foundations route will offer an alternative entry point for those without prior qualifications, ensuring that opportunity remains open to ambitious individuals from all backgrounds.

The Future is Here

This bold update ensures the ACCA Qualification remains relevant, respected, and truly global. These changes will ensure that future accountants are able to thrive in a world defined by digital transformation and the growing demand for sustainable business leadership.
