HOW TO STUDY WITH IBTC

Start at any time and set your own pace. We send you all the study material, study aids, planning tools and assessments you need to prepare for your final exam and to generate a semester mark.

Use our Study and Assessment Plan to plan your studies. Our dedicated Course Monitor will walk the road with you and encourage you throughout your studies. His job is to make sure you stay on track. Our dedicated tutors are subject-experts and there to help you if you get stuck. You have unlimited access to your tutor.

HOW MANY SUBJECTS IN A SEMESTER?

Most of our students start off with 2 subjects, because they work during the day and study in the evenings and over weekends. We recommend that you have 2 to 3 study sessions per week per subjects. So you will see that 2 subjects will fill up your week quite substantially. There are off course students who can take on more subjects at a time, but most of our students achieve success by studying 2 subjects at a time and sitting  2 subjects per exam sitting.

*Note that not all subjects are currently available on N5 and N6

SEMESTER MARK

Submit assessments to your college to generate a semester mark, which you will need to enter for the exam. Submit all your assessments before 22 January and 1 July to be eligible to receive a semester mark. If your semester mark >40%, you may enter for the exam.

YOUR EXAM

Enter for the exam before 22 Feb and 1 August. Write your exam at our exam centres in Sandton and Cape Town. If you are unable to attend these centres, we can make arrangements for you to sit at a local TVET college in your area. You can sit up to 4 subjects in a sitting.

PROGRESSION

Once you have successfully all four subjects in a level, the Department of Higher Education and Training will issue you with a National Certificate and you may progress to the next level.

On completion of the 18-month work-based experience, you will be qualified as a practitioner with a Diploma in Educare . You will be able to work with children between the ages of 0-5 years.

After 18 months of experience, you may apply for the National N-Diploma in Educare. This will enable you to continue studying in the Education field. You qualify to study the Bachelor’s Degree in Foundation Phase at an institution of Higher Education, such as a University (UNISA recognises students with a National N-Diploma).

YOUR QUALIFICATION

The National Certificate: Educare qualification is made up of an N4-certificate, N5-certificate and N6-certificate in Educare. On completion of the N6-certificate, students will submit proof of 18 month’s workplace experience at a registered Early Childhood Centre in order to obtain the National N-Diploma in Educare, through the Department of Higher Education and Training.

Please note that students will only receive a qualification on completion of the workplace experience.

EARN WHILE YOU LEARN

When you study Educare with IBTC, you can study from home with the support of our tutors and course advisors. This also means that you can study towards your Educare qualification while you are working. Thousands of people do it every year. You can do it too.
