OT Masterclasses – how much can you learn in a day?

If you want to know the value of one year, just ask a student who failed an exam.

"If you want to know the value of one month, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby. If you want to know the value of one hour, ask the lovers waiting to meet. If you want to know the value of one minute, ask the person who just missed the bus. If you want to know the value of one second, ask the person who just escaped death in a car accident. And if you want to know the value of one-hundredth of a second, ask the athlete who won a silver medal in the Olympics.”

In the above quote, French novelist Marc Levy reminds us of the difference a day can make. Jaco and Geocarol learnt the value of a day when attending one of our Masterclasses. For them it was the difference between a pass and a fail.

Masterclasses are a new product launched by IBTC to get students exam ready in one day! Think of it as exam bootcamp. It’s intense and fast-paced, and it will get you where you are going.

We asked students Jaco and Geocarol to tell us more about their Masterclass and the difference it made to them.

"What stood out for me was the vast amount of information shared in such a short space of time. I don't know how my lecturer did it!" said Jaco.

Echoing the same sentiments, Geocarol said "I like that the whole syllabus was covered. Nothing was left out. The class was such a confidence booster, something you need when you look at that very thick textbook."

What happens in a Masterclass?
The Masterclass is when all the concepts from the preceding weeks of studying start to come together.  The class will cover what is expected in the Objective Test, with respect to type of questions asked, resources available and a tutorial of how the interface looks and operates.

This is then followed by exam technique tips that will allow you to use your time optimally as well as answer most if not all the questions and prepare you to be ready for the exam. Question practice and time management play a huge role in exam success.  These are two areas where students frequently come short. It doesn’t matter if you can recite the entire textbook, you need to know how to apply this knowledge in order to successfully answer the question and do so in a way that is time efficient. If you miss the point of the question or run out of time no amount of knowledge is going to help you pass.

"The masterclass is very exam focussed. It told me what to concentrate on before I wrote, what to expect when writing, how to manage my time, how to answer the questions and avoid the traps,” said Jaco.

Do you want to attend a Masterclass?
Geocarol says her biggest insight from attending the class was to look at the subject as a whole before tackling the individual topics.
